Must call 1984 riots genocide: Diljit Dosanjh

Actor Diljit Dosanjh, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film, Jogi, says it was imperative that he play the role in Ali Abbas Zafar and Himanshu Mehra’s film with sensitivity. Set in the capital of India, Delhi, in 1984, the film charts a story of three friends who unite to save the lives of the residents of their town. Violence erupted in Delhi and other parts of the country after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984. Over 3,000 Sikhs were killed across India. Most were killed in Delhi. Talking about the film, Dosanjh told PTI, “We should not call it riots, the right word is genocide.
